This small series of works investigates the psychological aspects of female embodiment by venerating nudes from histories ‘masters’ including Paul Cézzane and Auguste Renoir as well as contemporary artists such as Bill Henson. By using the nude as a symbol Gleeson’s works asks, what if the female body is both autonomous and conditioned by its own image. Through this on-going project, Gleeson aims to add to the plurality of perspectives within a convention dominated by male artists.
